Online Classes

QAYG Series starting in February 2021

I teach online classes using The Westalee Design ruler foot and templates.  In addition to a Quilt as You Go Sampler Quilt Series, there is a Feather Class and TempLee Quilting and More Course.

I hope the following information answers your questions.

The Quilt as You Go Sampler Series

This is a 7-month class exploring  The Westalee Ruler Foot , the 12” Arc, and all the templates in the Sampler Set 1. You will learn different ways you can use these templates through videos and a monthly live session. The quilt was designed by Leonie West of Westalee Design and they are her videos. I offer alternatives, tips, and more details on how to stitch out the designs. I share the challenges I had and anticipate what others may have, how to avoid certain mistakes, etc. This includes pictures of my blocks every month and ongoing email support.  You also can participate in Show and Tell and a private Facebook group just for students.

Every month focuses on 1 or more templates, for example, the first month is the 12″ Arc. Another month uses the Clamshell and the 2″ Simple Circle. And so on. Most months have 4 blocks that are the same size with different design options. You can do those options, make them all the same, or come up with your own designs. Some students have opted to just do the exercises and not actually make the quilt. You can use the blocks as table toppers, wall hangings, pillows, etc. What you will learn is how to use all the templates in the Sampler Set. Using the reference lines on the templates and on your quilt, are explored.  In addition to learning the basic shapes, you are shown alternative ways throughout the course to use the templates. The goal is for you to become comfortable using them and build your skills. My intention is for you to take these skills and apply them to your own tops.

Feather Class:

A 3-month series exploring the Westalee Feather Template Set.  We will explore using these templates to make straight and curved spine feathers and turning corners for border designs. We will also explore block designs, and alternate or “Sassy” feathers.  I designed this class and they are my instructional videos.

TempLee Quilting and More

A 3-Lesson series using some of the Westalee Sampler Template Set.  In this course, you will learn the basics of TempLee Quilting . (a technique  using templates for reverse applique.) Some of the subjects covered include, fabric choice, fusible products, cutting techniques and tools, using 2 and 3 layers of fabric, and ways to use templates in traditional applique projects.  This course meets every other week where you will make a small table runner. The instructional videos are mine as is the course content.

What to expect:

During the live sessions, you will see a screen presentation, watch videos, and be able to ask questions. The sessions are scheduled for 2 hours to allow time for discussion if necessary.  After the live session, you will be sent a link for that month’s instructional videos and a class presentation handout. From there you may download the files for your personal use. All instructional information is sent after each session regardless of attendance.

All class materials are located on OneDrive. It is a Microsoft cloud platform that is free for you to access. It is the one cloud-based service that works with all operating systems and we can keep secure.

How this differs from other on-line options:

The sessions are live allowing students to get immediate answers to their questions and interact with others. I personally answer all email questions and monitor the student Facebook group. On the rare occasion, I cannot answer a question, I have access to those who can.

A little about Me:

In addition to managing My Sassy Notions’ online store, I am Westalee Design Accredited Teacher, a Sew Steady Brand Ambassador, and a Quilt in a Day Certified Teacher. I spend my time creating online classes and projects. I also try out new products, occasionally blog (I need to work on that one), and sew gifts when I have the time. ~Pam
