The journey for Reflections started last fall when I ran into Terry Gallegos from Quilt for a Cause at a sewing expo. Long story short: I took on the task of creating a quilt pattern that would be sold and a percentage of the profits would go to Quilt for a Cause. My goal was to create a quilt with somewhat of a wow factor, could be made by a confident beginner, but also one where the pattern wasn’t easily seen at first sight. The reaction so far has been good.
This journey was a personal one; having lost a close friend to Breast Cancer and being a survivor myself, I wanted to both honor my friend and put my personal stamp on it. I played around with triangle placement for a few weeks and eventually settled on a design. Next up: Fabric.
My intention was to mix up a variety of colors, but in the end, Pink won out. I used fabrics from Tula Pink, Alice Glass, Kaffe Fassett and others. The print fabrics all read the same and, in the end, that was the right choice.
The quilting on the sample was done by Two Hearts Quilting and finished by Terry Gallegos and Mimi Pollow; all of Tucson, AZ.
Back to Quilt for a Cause. I encourage you to go to their website and read about the various ways they fight breast and gynecological cancers. This is truly a special organization and I’m proud to have added another pattern to their lineup.
